Here, the students are to apply the analytical instruments (theories, methods, techniques) previously taught theoretically in a practical manner, train themselves in them and internalize them. The institutes and their departments define the project content for the project topics from their own ongoing work and research (Focal points of research at the Chair of Climatology) and thus ensure up-to-date content and tasks for the students. A list of previously conducted study projects at the department can be found further down the page.

The allocation to the projects takes place every semester via the Projektbörse (project exchange). Information and links to the project exchange are posted each semester through the ISIS pages of the study programs.

Methodical teaching content

Within the study projects, the participants are taught the basics of scientific work, in order to subsequently be taught content-related approaches to project topics. This is done using a wide variety of methods and procedures.
The fundamentals of scientific work are taught, among other things, through online tools developed in the Chair of Climatology on the topics of scientific work, bibliography and citation, as well as through exercises on literature research and the use of JabRef or other programs for literature organization.
Computer-based programs are used in the practical part. Depending on the project focus, different programs are used: ENVI (remote sensing image processing), ArcGIS (GIS), Rayman (radiation simulation), IRBIS (thermography evaluation), etc. These can be used within the processes of data collection, acquisition and analysis.
