Automobile manufacturers and suppliers are facing major challenges: The development of automated driving functions is becoming increasingly complex and costly due to the required combination of software and hardware and their safeguarding. At the same time, OEMs and suppliers are facing ever new challenges in the design of their supply chains. In both cases, improvements require bringing together large amounts of data from different sources.
Open data ecosystems, such as those that can be created on the basis of Gaia-X, offer a solution approach here. Solutions can be created that enable the efficient exchange of data and services while also ensuring the necessary security at the technical level.
Gaia-X 4 PLC-AAD aims to develop and construct such an open data ecosystem in environments for automated driving. The ecosystem is important for product development and manufacturing, as well as the exchange of information about the system based on Digital Twins. Integrating Digital Twins into the Gaia-X Ecosystem is an important part of this work. For this purpose, suitable information models, data architectures and associated processes and roles are developed. Gaia-X PLC-AAD also includes aspects of the development and operation of automated driving functions.
The Gaia-X 4 PLC-AAD project is part of the "Gaia-X Future Mobility" project family, which provides the framework for five projects so far that focus on data-centric applications. The other projects, which like Gaia-X 4 PLC-AAD are funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), are GAIA-X 4 KI, GAIA-X 4 AMS, GAIA- X 4 ROMS and Gaia-X 4 moveID. In order to achieve the content-related goals and to achieve broad applicability, there is an ongoing exchange both with the other projects of the project family and with other relevant initiatives such as Gaia-X, IDSA, Catena- X or the Mobility Data Space.
