Information Systems Engineering

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Tai

Stefan Tai is Full Professor and Head of Chair Information Systems Engineering at TU Berlin, Germany (2014-present). Prior to that, he was a Full Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany (2007-2014) and a Research Staff Member at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York, USA (1999-2007). He also held concurrent posts as Director of research labs, including the FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik in Karlsruhe and Berlin, Germany (2008-2014). He earned his Diploma (1995) and Ph.D. (1999) degrees from TU Berlin, Germany.

Stefan specializes on creating next-generation distributed software systems that provide a necessary foundation to address larger societal challenges.  His research interests include blockchain technology, software system qualities of cloud services, and the Web as a platform for technology, social, and business innovation.

Stefan has over 20 years of experience in cutting-edge IT research and development, having been involved in numerous, both scientific and industrial projects. His publications and patents can be found online. Stefan serves as associate editor of three leading scientific journals, has been a program committee member of over 200 international conferences (since 1999) , and also serves as expert evaluator for national science foundations and programs across the world. Stefan enjoys leading focused research teams with a size of approx. 12 (doctoral and post-doctoral) researchers and with external research grants averaging 1 Mio. Euro/Year. Stefan also serves as (advisory and scientific) board member of IT companies.
