Visa

Before arriving in the Federal Republic of Germany, please apply for a visa - in preparation for university studies - at the German diplomatic mission (embassy) of your home country. It is not possible to convert a tourist visa or other visa (e.g. au pair visa) into a visa for study purposes after entering the Federal Republic of Germany. Exceptions to this rule are: Andorra, Australia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Canada, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino, South Korea, Ukraine, USA. Please leave enough time to apply for a visa for study purposes when preparing your application; in many countries in can take up to 8 weeks to issue a visa – this is often too late to participate in a Studienkolleg course.
You find here further information on the right of residence.

Costs

The handling fees for the uni-assist application can be read in their regulation of fees. Visiting a T or a W course at Preparatory School/Studienkolleg and taking the admissions and assessment test are free of charge. For the Propädeutikum your have to pay a fee about 325€. You will have to pay a semester fee each semester of currently about 307€.This is not an enrollment fee, but represents a contribution to the Studierendenwerk Berlin and functions as a valid ticket for the Berlin public transportation system (BVG and S-Bahn).

Please only come to Germany if financing for your studies can be ensured! Employment for students in the Studienkolleg is limited to holiday periods and is usually inadequate to finance university studies and the corresponding living costs. For your stay in Berlin, you will require approx. 600€ per month.

Accomodation

The Preparatory School does not have any accommodation for students. We are also unable to organize accommodation for you. However, there are a number of options you can use to search for a flat or a room.

Student dormitories
You can apply to studierendenWERK BERLIN for a place in a student dormitory as soon as you are officially enrolled. studierendenWERK BERLIN provides information on its website about its own dormitories as well as other options for finding a flat or a room. You can also search a number of websites, such as www.wg-gesucht.de or www.studentendorf.berlin or www.studenten-wg.de. Particularly at the start of the semester, many students are looking for a room or a flat. We therefore recommend that you apply using a number of different options.
