Set up in 2000, it was located until 2021 at Faculty IV, where it was headed by Dr. Nazir Peroz. During this period, a number of development cooperation projects in the field of IT and informatics were developed and implemented. The ZiiK also included the Department of Comupter Science and Developing Countries  at TU Berlin as well as Faculty IV's professional mentor program.

In March 2021, the ZiiK relocated to Transnational Education and International Knowledge Transfer (INT-TNB) within the Department of International Affairs, where it continues to develop its projects

Computer Science and Developing Countries

Computer Science s and Developing Countries offers courses (seminars, projects) teaching and researching development cooperation in the area of computer science. In addition to fundamentals and basic concepts of development cooperation, students learn how to design, implement, and present practical projects for the promotion and development of IT structures in poor countries and crisis regions.

Afghanistan project

The ZiiK has been actively involved in redeveloping academic structures in Afghanistan since 2001. This has resulted in a number of projects which have established IT infrastructures, such as IT centers, computer labs, and IT libraries, at universities in Afghanistan. In addition many computer scientists have been trained as lecturers and IT specialists for Afghanistan, both locally and at TU Berlin

International projects

A number of projects have been set up to promote academic exchange and capacity building for countries such as Iraq, Tunisia, and Egypt. These have resulted in conferences, IT concepts and curricula, and training programs for system and network administrators.
