BridgeIT

The BridgeIT support program for scholars at risk was set up in 2022 to offer language courses and preparatory courses for doctoral students as well as offers to help prepare for the labor market. The coordination for these offers as well as the entire INTEGRA program is the responsibility of Transnational Education and International Knowledge Transfer (INT TNB), a newly established section within the Department of International Affairs.

All offers at TU Berlin within the INTEGRA program are available for all Ukrainian citizens whether they have formal refugee status or not. In addition, any Ukrainian with a master's degree in a discipline represented at TU Berlin may participate in the BridgeIT program.

Background

The Center for International and Intercultural Communication (ZiiK) at TU Berlin has been working for a number of years to establish and develop academic structures in Afghanistan in the area of computer science and IT. A number of different projects have enabled 125 master's students to study at TU Berlin, returning to Afghanistan to work as academics and IT specialists after completing their studies here.

Due to the current emergency in Afghanistan, the Executive Board at TU Berlin has decided to provide support for graduates of these programs who are currently at risk in Afghanistan or have recently fled the country. TU Berlin has issued invitations as visiting scholars to make it easier for them to leave Afghanistan.

INT TNB offers a support program to help these alumni establish themselves in Berlin and to develop and conduct research projects and prepare for their future careers.

The support program aims to help them network with other researchers as well as private business enterprises. Assistance is also provided with finding places in German courses and workshops are available to help prepare for the labor market or for a doctorate. The program encourages participants to learn from and with each other as peers as a means to help them strengthen their independence.

Through its involvement, the Department of International Affairs contributes significantly to TU Berlin's commitment to sustainable support for TU Berlin alumni at risk.
