Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) at TU Berlin

As a key element of "internationalization at home," TU Berlin encourages the use of COIL in teaching. COIL stands for Collaborative Online International Learning and is an easy-to-use and flexible instrument to enhance courses through digital and international components.

COIL enables digital collaboration between lecturers and above all students at different universities and in different countries working together on assignments in international teams. COIL elements are usually integrated into existing courses; students are graded and awarded ECTS credits as part of courses at their own universities.

Staff in the Department of International Affairs and the ZEWK's online teaching team are happy to help you with your COIL projects and can advise you on finding suitable partner institutions, the right online tools for your needs, as well as questions relating to teaching.

Since summer 2022, TU Berlin has been a member of the Berlin BeCOIL collaborative project, which forms part of the Quality and Innovation Offensive (QIO). In total, nine Berlin universities work together to develop guidelines and best practices for COIL as well as offer continuing education programs for teachers and students. You can find upcoming events and useful information about COIL on TU Berlin’s COIL website.
