Gender and Diversity in Science, Technology and Society (STEM)

Participating countries: Poland, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Germany

Participating universities: Warsaw University of Technology (Poland), Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland), Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (Ecuador), RWTH Aachen (Germany), TU Berlin (Germany)

Description: At the beginning of September, the Blended Intensive Program “Gender and Diversity in STEM” started for the second time at TU Berlin. The Summer School, which took place from 25 until 29 September also included virtual preparatory and follow-up phases. Depending on the format of their participation, students acquired between 3 and 6 ECTS.

Around 60 students from ENHANCE partner universities (TU Gdańsk, WUT, UPV, RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin) studying in a wide range of fields from bachelor’s to PhD level have participated in the blended intensive program. The program examined how far gender and diversity can be understood as context-related results of historical, political, social and cultural processes and to what extent they can be studied scientifically. Working in (virtual) collaborative learning phases with accompanying expert input, students acquired the ability to understand how science and technology shape social inequality and intersectional positioning as well as evaluated them critically and reflexively.

However, this time the program has been enriched through the participation of students from beyond Europe. Some 150 students from Mexico and Ecuador have participated online in three COIL sessions (Collaborative Online International Learning) to provide their perspectives on climate change in the context of gender relations. Here you find more information on this COIL.

Digital tools / web conference systems / learning platforms: Zoom, Etherpad (kits tools)

Program dates: Beginning of September – end of November 2023; in-presence phase: 25.9.-29.9.2023
