Engineering geologists provide geological or geotechnical recommendations, analyses, and designs for the sustainable planning and development of structures, as well as their protection. Many environmental issues, such as the development of geological energy storage facilities or the safe disposal of (nuclear) waste are also part of their tasks. The overall aim is the sustainable and safe use of the subsoil (construction ground) as a resource, as well as the protection of society and the environment from contamination and geological hazards. To solve these tasks, engineering geologists make use of scientific and engineering knowledge and methods.
