Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

Products and services are becoming increasingly complex through the integration of software, including in the form of artificial intelligence. At the same time, products are often offered in a wide range of varieties in order to succeed on the market. In addition, documentation and verification requirements, e.g. of correct functioning, contents, and emissions, are increasing due to normative requirements. These and other developments are leading companies to view products as systems and subsystems to be developed in an interdisciplinary manner with clear boundaries, and base models on them as a technical expression of the systems.

In our research on MBSE, we focus on identifying concrete potential for individual companies and defining prerequisites, effectively using existing model notation forms and languages (e.g., SysML), establishing consistency and integration along cross-company product development, making models tangible and thus designing functionality close to use.
