Checklists for Master’s Applications

Here you will find checklists for applications to master’s programs at TU Berlin, depending on which applicant group you are in.

If you acquired your first university degree (for example a bachelor’s) from our university or will graduate from here shortly, you can apply directly to TU Berlin.

If this is not the case, please apply via uni-assist.

Checklist for master’s applications Graduates and students in Germany: You have studied at a German university before (also TU Berlin)

1. Application for admission to a master's program at TU Berlin for direct applicants

Please download the application for admission to a Master's programme at TU Berlin and fill it out.

Incorrect information or missing information may result in rejection.

2. Proof of your primary/undergraduate university degree

Complete proof of your primary/undergraduate university degree may be submitted by -  incl. official translation (if not issued in German or English)

  • including your complete official university degree certificate as well as a complete official summary of your study subjects, grades and credit points (transcript).

or if you have not completed your Bachelor’s studies yet,

  • an complete official ECTS certificate with your current total number of ECTS credit points and your current average cumulative grade (GPA) - incl. official translation (if not issued in German or English)
    • for applicants from TU Berlin: a complete printout from your QISPOS account incl. the Master's qualification or a printed summary of your study subjects incl. current average cumulative grade (GPA) from your tuPORT account or, if you want to apply for an educational Master’s degree program (teacher training program), an ECTS certificate issued by team 1 of the examinations office
    • for teacher training bachelor students: special rules you can find here
    • for external applicants (from other German universities): an complete official summary of your study subjects incl. the current total number of ECTS credit points and your current average cumulative grade (GPA), issued by the respective official of your university (e.g. examinations office) or downloaded from your university online account . These must either
      • be stamped and signed by the official office or
      • contain an indication that they have been produced by mechanical means or
      • contain a verification code.

3. Study and examination regulations and the module descriptions

If existing, please upload the study and examinations regulations (“Studien- und Prüfungsordnung – StuPO”) as well as the module descriptions of your primary university degree program (in German or English) and highlight the sections that are relevant to the content-related/specific entry requirements of your desired Master’s degree program. This allows the examinations board to better manage the verification process and to correctly review your application with regard to the content-related entry requirements.

Furthermore, we ask you to place these documents at the end of the application file for better readability.

4. Further specific proofs and certificates (study program related)

Some of our Master’s degree programs require further specific proofs or certificates. For ex. a proof of English language proficiency. Please visit our websitefor more information on the specific requirements of your desired Master’s degree program (admissions requirements). If you have further questions on the formal requirements of these specific proofs and certificates or if you have questions with regard on content, please contact the responsible student advisory service of your desired Master’s degree programme.

In case you have to submit work samples (e.g. for the Master’s degree programme in Architecture), please submit it also in the form of a PDF file together with your application documents.

Specific proofs and certificates might be requested as original documents or in the form of simple copies according to the admissions regulations (“Zugangs- und Zulassungsordnung (ZZO)"). These documents are to be submitted only electronically as a PDF file.

5. Proof of German language proficiency

Required for all study programs with German as the language of instruction.

PLEASE NOTE: As of an application for the summer semester 2022, Nationals of Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland with a foreign Master's entrance qualification also need a language certificate at the required level. Your identity card or passport is NOT sufficient proof of language skills!

6. Current certificate of enrolment or certificate of termination of enrolment (exmatriculation)

Please submit a current certificate of enrolment if you are enrolled at a university at the time of application, or the most recent certificate of exmatriculation if you are not currently enrolled. This must include all university semesters in which you were enrolled in Germany.

Please note: Your application will not be rejected if you fail to include this certificate. However, we cannot take account of your waiting period without it. This means that you will be considered in the ranking with 0 semesters of waiting time.

7. Proof of periods of civilian/military service

Proof of periods of civilian/military service, if applicable, according to article 7 (1) of the “Berliner Hochschulzulassungsgesetz (BerlHZG)” (Berlin higher education admissions law).

In the event of equal ranking in the selection procedure within the waiting period quota, priority will be given to applicants who meet the requirements specified in § 7. If there is still equality of rank after this, the decision will be made by lottery process.

8. Valid ID

Be sure to mark your personal document as a copy. You can black out any unnecessary data. Necessary datas are your full name, date of birth and place of birth

  • national ID card (front and back) or
  • passport (page showing personal data)

9. Re-Enrollment

If you were previously enrolled in the same degree program with the same study and examination regulations at TU Berlin, you are a re-registrant. As a re-registrant wanting to re-apply for the first semester you need to submit the Credit transfer application - part A with the placement into the first term of studying (“Fachsemester”) from the relevant examination board as well.

10. Applying for a higher semester

For an application for a higher semester, the following documents have to be submitted to the TU Berlin Graduate Admissions Department in due form and time incl. the approval of the examinations board.

Checklist for master’s applications: You have studied at a foreign university (primary university degree)

1. Application form

Application form will be created during the uni-assist online application process

2. Primary university degree/undergraduate degree

Primary university degree/undergraduate degree - incl. official translation (if not issued in German or English)

  • including your official university degree certificate as well as an official summary of your study subjects, grades and credit points (transcript)

or if you have not completed your Bachelor’s studies yet at a university that is an active member of the European Higher Education Area

  • an official ECTS certificate with your current total number of ECTS credit points and your current average cumulative grade (GPA)
    • an official summary of your study subjects incl. the current total number of ECTS credit points and your current current average cumulative grade (GPA), issued by the respective official of your university (e.g. examinations office, with signature and stamp) or downloaded from your university online account (with verification code or reference to automatically generated)

3. Study and examination regulations and the module descriptions
