What is a first degree program?
You apply for a first degree if you
- do not already have a degree from a university in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway
- already have a degree from a university in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway and would like to apply for a degree program with free admission (no NC)
Please note: Re-registration at TU Berlin
If you were previously enrolled in the same degree program with the same study and examination regulations at TU Berlin, you are a re-registrant.
When re-registering, you can only apply for the higher degree semester you were placed in by the TU Berlin examination board ("Fachsemestereinstufung"). The semester must fall within the standard period of study for your degree program AND be offered the semester you are applying (i.e. winter or summer semester).
Please note that it is not possible to be placed back in the first degree semester!
Please note the information for application for a higher degree semester: Application group D.
Special requirements and supplemental applications
You can claim special requirements and/or make supplemental applications. This is only possible if these are submitted together with your application to uni-assist by the deadline and in due form. You can find more detailed information in our information sheet. The special application forms can be found here.
Selection process and notification
Selection process in the first degree semester of a restricted admission degree program (with NC):
- From the total number of study places available, places are first deducted for applicants who were admitted in a previous selection procedure during or at the start of a period of service (for example military service) and who were not able to take up their studies due to completion of the service (= so-called "preferred admissions"). Study places reserved for advance quotas are then deducted from the remaining study places. The final remaining study places are equally allocated by average grade and waiting period.
- Waiting period: Waiting semesters are all semesters after you acquired your university entrance qualification and during which you were not enrolled at a university in the EU (including Germany), Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.
- All nationals of the EU (including Germany), Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, as well as all applicants with German educational certificates are considered on the basis of a single ranking.
- The selection process begins mid-August each year for the winter semester and mid-February for the summer semester.
- In the event that study places have not been allocated after the completion of the selection procedure, these study places will be allocated using a clearing procedure. Participation is only via hochschulstart.de.
- You can find past selection cut-off criteria here.
Notification:
- The decision of admission or rejection are sent beginning mid-August each year for the winter semester and mid-February for the summer semester.
- If you applied for a first degree semester in a restricted admission degree program (with NC) and registered with hochschulstart.de, you will receive your TU Berlin letter of admission or rejection directly from the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (hochschulstart.de) by mail or email.
