Application periods and deadlines

Application periods and deadlines can be found on the following page.

You can submit your application to uni-assist until the last day of the application deadline.

However, please note that it can take up to a few weeks for uni-assist to process your documents, meaning that you may receive the results only after the application deadline has expired. uni-assist is not obliged to inform applicants of incomplete or insufficient application documents prior to the expiration of the application deadline. Ensure that you apply in good time!

It is not possible to extend the application deadline or submit documents after the end of the application deadline. Incomplete applications or applications that have not been submitted in due form by the end of the application period cannot be considered and will be rejected.

Pre-check by uni-assist

Regardless of your nationality, as an applicant with an international university entrance qualification you must apply via uni-assist.

uni-assist checks your application documents to ensure they are in accordance with TU Berlin’s formal requirements, paying particular attention to the following:

  • the submission of the online application (application for admission)
  • whether your university entrance qualification and your average grade (as calculated by uni-assist) are suitable for your choice of undergraduate program
  • proof of language skills
  • whether all your application documents have been submitted in proper form
  • whether all your documents have been submitted in full prior to the expiration of the application deadline

Following the pre-check, uni-assist will electronically forward your application to TU Berlin. Your application documents remain with uni-assist. TU Berlin conducts a final check of all your application documents, particularly special applications or applications submitted using TU Berlin’s own forms, before making a final decision concerning your entry to the admissions procedure. Please note that TU Berlin’s assessment of your application documents may result in a different decision than that indicated by uni-assist!

Uni-assist charges handling fees for the pre-check which must be paid before your application can be processed. If you have any questions or problems regarding the handling fees, please contact uni-assist directly.

Important note about future applications

Each new application must be checked to see whether you have a university entrance qualification for the chosen degree program - regardless if you have already applied to TU Berlin in a previous semester or are already enrolled at TU Berlin.

For a new application semester you must therefore re-apply and submit all necessary application documents to uni-assist and pay the handling fees.

If your last application was less than one year ago and uni-assist still has the documents required for an application to TU Berlin and the assessment of the university entrance qualification and your proof of language skills at the required level in paper form, these documents do not have to be submitted again. Exception: If you submitted preliminary proof with your application, you must replace the preliminary proof with the final certificate in your new application. Additionally, some universities take the paper application documents from uni-assist. In this case, uni-assist no longer has them in its possession within the one-year deadline.

MINTgrün pre-study orientation program

Prospective students with an international university entrance qualification must always apply to TU Berlin - including for the MINTgrün pre-study orientation program. You cannot enroll without prior application and admission!

The MINTgrün program only begins each winter semester. If you are interested in the MINTgrün pre-study orientation program, please apply via uni-assist with all the documents required for a standard application and choose the undergraduate program "Physik/ Bachelor/1. Fachsemester” in the online application. Once you have been admitted, you can then enter "MINTgrün/Physik/Bachelor/1. Fachsemester” on the enrollment form.

Clearing procedures and lottery system

In the event that study places in degree programs with restricted admission (with Numerus Clausus) have not been allocated after the completion of the admission procedure, these study places will be allocated using a clearing procedure or by means of a lottery system. Further information can be found here.

Professionally qualified applicants

If you have not acquired a university entrance qualification certificate from school (e.g. an Abitur) but are able to provide proof of certain professional qualifications, you can apply for a study placement under certain conditions pursuant to Section 11 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz - BerlHG).
