Quality dialogs combine quality assurance measures at degree program level (teaching conference and degree program evaluation) with steering measures at management level. In order to jointly analyze and improve the quality of teaching and learning, the vice president for education (VP) holds a two-hour discussion, the quality dialog every two years with both the management and students of each faculty and the central institute.
In addition to following up on agreed quality agreements and reviewing the implementation of all quality assurance processes, the dialog also regularly addresses the following:
The resolutions of the Internal Accreditation Committee on internal program accreditations (=degree program evaluation) as well as the aggregated assessment of all programs of a year during the teaching conferences contribute in advance to identifying overarching strategic issues at the faculty or central institute level.
First, Strategic Controlling compiles strategic topics at University level related to the target system in the form of guidelines. These guidelines are compiled on the basis of an evaluation of the results from the faculty’s quality assurance process for a degree program (= teaching conference & degree program evaluation) for a period of two years.
The faculty makes additions to these guidelines prior to the VP’s discussion with management. Together with a selection of aggregated data at faculty level and the minutes from the VP’s discussion with students, these guidelines provide the foundation for the quality dialog. During the quality dialog, the systematic starting points from the quality target system at TU level are also discussed. The compiled data are used as the foundation for a discussion with students from the respective faculty or central institute, held about two weeks beforehand in order to collect their views on studying and teaching.
