Process Dynamics and Operations

Process Control

The continuous monitoring and target-oriented control of process engineering processes is essential for safe and economically optimal operation. The course Process Control deals with methods for the analysis of the (dynamic) process behavior and the operability of individual devices as well as complete production processes. Concepts for the design of control systems based on classical controller structures as well as Advanced Process Control (APC) and optimizing methods are presented and implemented with computer support using case studies. In addition, communication architectures and interfaces of industrially established process control technology as well as the structure of process visualizations are dealt with. Here, human-machine interaction plays a particularly important role. Further, established process measurement technology, current challenges and new developments (higher PAT, soft sensing) are presented. The course is offered as an integrated course and combines lectures with independently worked computer exercises.
