Open Access Is Fundamentally Changing the Culture of Academic Publishing

The aim of open access is to make publications arising from publicly funded research projects freely available for use online, both free of charge and without any legal or technical restrictions. This principle is radically changing the culture of academic publishing.

By signing the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, Technische Universität Berlin made clear its commitment to the advancement of open access to research findings. The general framework conditions established in the University’s Open Access Policy enable TU Berlin to actively contribute to the international process of achieving open access for academic publications.

Technische Universität Berlin is further committed to pursuing both gold open access, in other words open access for primary publication as well as the green open access option for secondary publication. The university has appointed an Open Access Representative to implement the Open Access Policy. The University Library is responsible for coordinating Open Access activities and developing Services.
