Further Advisory & Counseling Services

Aside from the different services offered by the Academic Advising Service, there are a number of other central institutions and student initiatives at TU Berlin that are happy to advise and provide support on specific topics.

Advising and support for international students

Support for international students, provided by the Student Mobility and International Students Section in the Department of International Affairs at TU Berlin, encompasses advising, support, and service offers of all kinds to facilitate the beginning of your stay. The support offered is first and foremost on topics and concerns related to your studies, social affairs, and your stay in Germany. This includes orientation events for new enrolled students at the beginning of every semester, a special mentoring program for scholarship holders, excursions, company visits, and cultural events. The Section can also help with extensions to residence permits upon request.

Advising on your chosen study subject: Course Guidance

If you would like to learn more about your study program, Course Guidance is the place for you. Course Guidance advisors are located in each of the faculties and provide information about program structure and content, schedules, electives in your degree program and more. Links to the individual advising offices for degree programs can be found on the profile page for each degree program.

Diversity, equal opportunities and protection against discrimination: advising services

The following provides an overview of the key contact persons, advising services and representatives for specific groups regarding diversity, equal opportunities and protection against discrimination. In addition to general information and advising services for TU members and visitors, this overview also includes information about where you can obtain support and assistance in cases of discrimination.

Advising from AStA 

The General Students’ Committee at TU Berlin, AStA for short, represents the interests of all students at TU Berlin and offers numerous support and advising offers: These include BAföG advising and social counseling, advising for international students, and an office dedicated to matters regarding the Semesterticket or student publication transportation pass.

Faculty initiatives 

Faculty initiatives are student groups particularly dedicated to student concerns and interests within their own degree program and faculty as well as to improving study conditions in general. They are active in University politics, such as in the Student Parliament, Academic Senate, Faculty Board, and in appointment committees. Some organize votes on different topics, conduct orientation events for their degree program, run cafés and the like, and collect and distribute exams from previous semesters along with other learning and information materials. They are always happy to welcome new members! 

Advising on labor and employment law

students@work provides advice on all questions related to labor and employment law at TU Berlin. Students who have a job or are completing an internship can find comprehensive information here about termination protection, social security, entitlement to vacation days, paid sick leave, etc. Advising sessions are held in the Campus Center.

External advising offices

Students can find a wide range of advising offices outside of TU Berlin dedicated to student-related topics These include Studierendenwerk Berlin which offers social counseling, psychological and psychotherapeutic counseling, and counseling on barrier-free studies for students with impairments.
