Bicycle Excursion from Campus Charlottenburg to Spandau

planned date: Winter semester

In the winter semester, students of the Master's programme Geotechnology can discover the capital from the perspective of hydrogeology as part of the module "Hydrogeology (MSc1)" (to the module overview).

Together with the bicycle and Prof. Irina Engelhardt, numerous water management and scientifically exciting stops will be made over 2 days between the Charlottenburg campus and the western bank of the Havel.

Excursion to the Friedrichshagen waterworks and Ruhleben sewage treatment plant

planned dates: Winter semester

In the winter semester, students of the Bachelor's degree programme Geotechnology can visit the Friedrichshagen waterworks and the Ruhleben sewage treatment plant  as part of the module "Fundamentals of Hydrogeology" (german: Grundlagen der Hydrogeologie, module overview).

Hydrogeological Excursion to Lusatia

planed date: summer semester (autumn)

As part of the module „Aktuelle und Spezielle Themen der Hydrogeologie“ (Current and Special Topics in Hydrogeology) (to the module overview) in the specialisation "Water and Environment", a one-week excursion to Lusatia will take place beginning in summer semester 2022.

The focus of the excursion is on the current challenges in the water balance in the Spree catchment area, which are strongly connected to the imminent coal phase-out and structural change in the Lusatian region as well as climatic change.

Visits will include an active open-pit mine, recultivation areas, flooded open-pit mines and dams for water management, as well as the Briesen waterworks with infiltration basins for artificial groundwater recharge.

Field course in Hobrechtsfelde

The field course in Hobrechtsfelde (as part of the module "Experimental Hydrogeology") typically takes place at the end of the summer semester (September). The research area, which is located at the northern border of Berlin, was irrigated with sewage until 1985.

The focus of the field course are discharge measurements, pumping tests, slug-and-bail-tests as well as groundwater sampling. All experiments are done and analysed by the participating students.
