Bio

Jonathan Weatherill-Hunt has been a Ph.D. student in the Department of Audio Communication since April 2018. He obtained first class honours in his undergraduate degree in Communication, Media & Popular Music where his work first began to focus on the study of subcultures, music technology and technological affordances. He then completed an MA in Popular Music Studies at The University of Liverpool’s Institute of Popular Music, graduating with a distinction. Jonathan utilises interdisciplinary approaches in his research and he specialises in the study of popular music subcultures and the application of qualitative methodologies. His PhD project employs ethnographic techniques alongside textual analysis and discourse analysis to investigate the emergence of anti-digital and pro-analogue discourse and attitudes within the modern electronic dance music industry. When not perusing his thesis, he works part time at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Friedrichshain.
