TU Berlin Mourns for Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral in Scotland on the afternoon of 8 September 2022. The Queen had very close ties with both Berlin and our University over many years.

Thus it was that she gifted the Queen’s Lecture to the city on the occasion of her visit here in 1965. Since 1997, this series of lectures has been held annually at TU Berlin. Each year, a distinguished academic from the United Kingdom delivers a lecture in their area of expertise, thus strengthening dialogue and the close relationship between TU Berlin and the United Kingdom. Each Queen's Lecture started with a personal message from Elizabeth II.

We express our gratitude for this gift and share in the mourning of the United Kingdom for Elizabeth II.

A look back at the visit of Queen Elizabeth to TU Berlin

On 24 June 2015, TU Berlin had the great honor of welcoming Queen Elizabeth and her consort, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to the celebrations to mark 50 years of the Queen’s Lecture. Guests of honor included Federal President Joachim Gauck, Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Michael Müller, governing mayor of Berlin. We have put together some photographs to commemorate the occasion.
