Model investigations of intake structures of pumping stations

The demands on pumping stations are significantly influenced by changes in society and the environment. These include demographic development, climate change and the careful use of water as a resource. The resulting challenges influence the planning of new facilities as well as the maintenance of existing ones. In order to derive the necessary measures and guidelines, experimental investigations are carried out on models on a reduced scale, taking into account the laws of similarity.

Following research topics are currently being investigated at the chair:

  • Assessment of the actual condition of existing structures with wet and dry installed pumps
  • Optimal design of the pump station (bottom and wall geometry, inlet position and direction)
  • Innovative concepts for pumping stations
  • Ensure a spin free incoming flow on intake structures of pumping stations
