Fluid System Dynamics

Mechanical Circulatory Supports

Heart failure is one of the most frequent causes of death in Germany. The use of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) systems can significantly improve the life span and quality of life of affected patients. There is a need for research especially in the reduction of flow-induced blood damage by developing hemodynamically efficient pump geometries.

Following research topics are currently being investigated at the chair:

  • Measurement of the power loss of miniature pumps (<1W) in steady-state and dynamic operation
  • Loss distribution and quantification of hydraulic power losses in MCS
  • Laser-optical measurement of specific loss components
