Implementation and validation of the control law for continuous moving flaps according to the speed of the best glide into the CATsim simulation environment

Abstract

Within the scope of this work, the control law for continuous moving flaps corresponding to the velocity for best glide (VGD, [6]) is to be approximated and implemented in the point mass simulation environment CATSim. The control law VGD controls the flap position according to the linear approximation between the points of best glide of known flap positions. The control law VGD represents an extension of the influence of the drag in the landing approach for the pilot. The same control laws as in the SEPHIR research simulator should be available in the CATSim simulation tool for rapid evaluation of approaches with continuous flap travel. Therefore, the focus of the work shall be on the validation of the implementation in comparison to the SEPHIR flight simulator.
