Research Assistants

Research Assistant

Working field:

  • Collaboration in the UNISELECT research project with tasks in the field of flight mechanics and aeroelasticity
  • Extension and integration of software modules for the UNICADO software tool
  • Analysis of the applicable regulations regarding the wing structures and the associated controllability and stability criteria
  • Analysis of aircraft designs with regard to the aeroelastic behaviour of the lift surfaces
  • Evaluation of possible technologies and feasible configurations for maximally efficient long-haul vehicles
  • Development of models for the aeroelastic analysis of lifting surfaces and their evaluation with regard to stability and controllability criteria
  • Carrying out sensitivity analyses of aircraft designs with regard to the aeroelastic deformation of the lifting surfaces

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a scientific university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in aerospace engineering or a related field of study
  • Very good knowledge in the field of flight mechanics and aeroelasticity, especially in the areas of modelling, flight simulation and flight performance
  • Knowledge in the field of aircraft design
  • Experience in the field of aircraft certification is an advantage (CS-23/CS-25)
  • Very good programming skills in the design and analysis programs MATLAB/SIMULINK and experience in the practical use of these tools
  • Very good programming skills in C/C++ and/or Python or willingness to acquire these independently
  • Ability to work in a team, high self-motivation, project experience and an independent way of working with high degree of self-organisation
  • Good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected

Student Assistants

Student assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Provide content support for programming work on aeroelasticity, flight dynamics, and control of flexible aircraft including analysis/evaluation using programs such as: NASTRAN, HyperMesh, CAD programs and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Integration of electrical systems for a flying aeroelastic demonstrator, including structural and rigid body measurements.
  • Participate in the detailed phases of design and construction of wings for aeroelastic demonstrators and HIL for flexible aircraft.
  • Assist the team in the design of the aircraft structure and integration of electrical systems.
  • Participate in the experimental campaigns to test the wing structure and HIL with the integrated systems for navigation/control and measurement of structural dynamics.
  • Documentation work (latex).

Expected Qualifications:

  • Confident handling of NASTRAN and HyperMesh
  • Confident use of Matlab/Simulink required.
  • Good knowledge of systems integration and embedded systems.
  • Good programming skills in C/C++
  • Good knowledge of flight mechanics and flight control required.
  • Good knowledge of aeroelasticity desired.
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

Student assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Programming work on flight dynamics and trajectory control models and analysis/evaluation programs in C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Performing subtasks in the design of flight dynamics and trajectory control modules in Matlab/Simulink
  • Support in the preparation and execution of tests with pilots in the flight simulator
  • Checking criteria/requirements in flight dynamics and trajectory control for preliminary design and partial models (validation and verification)
  • Documentation work (Latex, Office)

Expected Qualifications:

Must:

  • Confident handling of Matlab/Simulink
  • Good programming skills in C/C++
  • Very good knowledge of flight mechanics and flight control
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills in each case

Can:

  • Good knowledge of aeroelasticity
