Curriculum Vitae

Flávio Silvestre has been working in the last years with some of issues related to the increase of airframe flexibility, particularly with Dynamics and Control of Flexible Aircraft and Aeroservoelasticity. In 2015, he started at ITA the coordination of a joint research project with EMBRAER, the Brazilian Aircraft Manufacturer, funded by FINEP, the Brazilian Funding Agency for Innovation and Research, and EMBRAER to explore techniques of dynamic modelling for moderate to highly flexible aircraft and to investigate challenges in controlling these more flexible vehicles. The project was developed in collaboration with the University of Michigan and was the seed of a laboratory of flight mechanics and control he stablished at ITA, with five associated researchers and more than ten post-doc researchers and PhD candidates. To this day, more than 40 successful flights with the X-HALE aircraft have been accomplished. Flávio Silvestre joined in March 2019 the TU Berlin as Full Professor of Aerospace Engineering (W3- Professur), where he chairs the Department of Flight Mechanics, Flight Controls and Aeroelasticity. He is currently teaching the following disciplines in both undergrad and grad levels: Flight Control, Aircraft Performance, Introduction to Aerospace Engineering, Flying Qualities.
