This session is part of the lecture series "Advances in Water Management and Climate Adaptation" organized by the Smart Water Networks department of TU Berlin. On December 5th, Marta Zaniolo from Duke University (USA) will present her research on "Dynamic urban water planning: adapting to changing droughts, technology innovation, and policy shifts".
The lecture series on "Advances in Water Management and Climate Adaptation" is a comprehensive course designed to explore the latest techniques, tools, technologies, strategies, and policies in managing water resources and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change.
Different early-stage researchers from international universities, research institutions, technology centers, and policy institutes will present cutting edge research, projects, lessons learned, challenges and visions on water resources management and climate adaptation. Each lecture will be of (approximately) 1-hour duration, followed by a discussion among the attending students and the lecturer.
Marta Zaniolo will join Duke CEE as an assistant professor in January 2024. Her research addresses timely water sustainability challenges including how to ensure reliable and affordable access to water resources in the face of scarcity, competing demands, and a changing climate. She combines the fields of hydrology and water resources modeling with machine learning and data mining techniques to enable more informed decision-making about water use at scales large and small. Zaniolo holds a BS and MS degree in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Information Technology earned in the Environmental Intelligence lab at Politecnico di Milano. Prior to joining Duke, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the CEE department at Stanford University.
