Leadership

Digital and hybrid leadership – a challenge?

Many managers find it challenging to lead and motivate a remote team as well as maintain team spirit.
Our understanding of management and leadership is changing, raising questions about how we organize work, communicate, and manage staff.

  • What types of communication do I use? When, how, and where can I contact my team?
  • How can I support my staff? What are my employees working on currently?
  • How can I meet the different needs of my employees? How can I ensure transparency and trust within the team?

Many departments and teams have developed a mix of working on campus, digitally, and in hybrid format.
What originally resulted from an emergency situation has now developed into standard everyday practice and has been established in various University and staff council agreements.

How does this impact you?
What worked well? What can you build on? And where do you require assistance?

Team

Shaping digital and hybrid collaboration

Effective digital collaboration requires dedicated teamwork. Everyday routines, familiar practices, and conversations held in passing have to be transferred to the digital space - ideally in a way that meets the individual needs of all team members. How can we reconcile all of this?

  • Which rules and structures are effective? Have we achieved clear communication and transparency in our workflows?
  • What has to change? Do we have the trust needed to arrange new guidelines or express our needs?
  • Where is support needed? Are all the requirements met to work digitally?

The digital space offers new possibilities to engage as a team, shape workflows, and maintain a positive feeling of togetherness.

Time, self, and project management

Digital working world – planning, prioritizing, and making decisions independently

“Today I sat at my computer all day with one meeting after the other. I didn’t get anything done.”
Flexibility can quickly become challenging when it means losing time and your motivation. Having a sense of balance and satisfaction is the result of successful self-organization. This requires effective time management and planning, prioritizing and decision-making are at the core of this.

  • What conditions do I need to effectively make decisions and work?
  • Do I have the necessary structure and overview to flexibly and productively respond to unforeseen circumstances?
  • What takes up too much of my time? What stresses me? And what kind of resources and competences do I have?

Improve your self management with practical tips or by adapting your communication and media skills to digital work.

How would you like to benefit from flexibility in the digital work world?
Which competences would you like to strengthen?

Mental health

Balance & quality of life

Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing.
It is a key component to achieving good quality of life and allowing you to realize your full potential, cope with life’s stresses, work productively, and participate in society.

  • How resilient am in my everyday (work) life?
  • How do I handle conflict?
  • Am I am able to reconcile challenges in my professional life with other areas of my life?

It is essential to develop a good sense of self, understand your mind and body’s warning signs, and take preemptive steps.

Ergonomics and health

Creating room for action - promoting health

Location-independent working and flexible work hours can lead to your professional and private life overlapping. At the same time, it provides new room for action and requires greater responsibility with regards to your health, such as how you structure your work space and working hours. Temporal, spatial, and mental separation between your work and private life is key for ensuring good health. This includes

  • Clearly structuring your work day
  • Implementing ergonomic recommendations as well as regeneration periods in the form of rest breaks
  • Avoiding disruptions and interruptions AND integrating your individual needs and situation

The autonomy and flexibility of remote work can both benefit as well as negatively impact your health.

If everyone has the necessary technical conditions and media skills, it can offer advantages such as

  • Quick and transparent communication

Legal compliance and data protection

Be informed - act safely - protect data

Data protection is a current issue. However, it can be hard to understand and we frequently underestimate the risks associated. As such, it is essential to know when and how to observe data protection in your work:

  • Why is data protection important?
  • What does data protection encompass?
  • How is my work affected by data protection?

Without data protection, privacy wouldn’t be possible. This means we are all responsible for observing data protection.

Are you familiar with the basic principles of data protection?
Where do you require assistance?
