General information

The TU Berlin Chair of Mathematics concluded a framework agreement with Maplesoft Europe GmbH for discounted usage rights for the Maple mathematics software package. This agreement was renewed through 30 November 2024. This agreement allows all University units to acquire additional single and multi-user licenses for Maple. These are permanent usage rights including maintenance through 30 November 2023. Currently, Maple version 2022 is available. If needed, you can purchase the usage rights with maintenance, allowing you to update to the most current version of the software.

The mathematics-based software Maple is an easy-to-use, graphics-oriented software for interactive symbolic and numeric processing, analysis, and presentation of mathematical problems and technical-scientific data. More than 2,500 functions in the areas of symbolic and numeric computation as well as graphics (2-D and 3-D) can be extended through user functions. The numerical accuracy is unlimited and freely selectable. Results can be output in C or Fortran code, among other formats. Additionally, the extensive help system can be used like an online reference manual.

This contract does not allow TU Berlin students or employees to acquire usage rights for personal use.

Licensing conditions

University units can purchase single and multi-user licenses. Newly acquired licenses include a maintenance agreement, which is scheduled to end 30 November 2023. Upon request, the maintenance period for usage rights which currently include maintenance can be extended for an additional year. If the maintenance right of use has expired, the most current product version as of the date of the end of maintenance may continue to be used as a permanent right of use.

The licensing agreement only allows for software to be installed on University computers and used by University members for the purposes of research and teaching and administrative work.

Requirements

Maple software can be used with the following operating systems:

  • Windows 64-Bit
  • Linux 64-Bit
  • Mac OS

Please read the manufacturer’s system requirements for detailed information about supported platforms and operating systems.

Usage rights can be acquired via the software portal. You require the “purchaser” role (Bestellerrolle) in the software portal to purchase products in the Maple framework agreement.

Purchasing and accessing installation files

Licenses are purchased via the software portal. To place an order, you require the “purchaser” role. Installation files can be found in the purchaser’s download section of the software portal and downloaded from there. Further information about installation can be found on the Maplesoft website.

Activation is required to use the software. To activate the software, you require a purchase code. ZECM will send the purchaser an email with the purchase code once Maplesoft has processed the order. The files will be provided in the software portal approximately one week after the date of purchase.

You are not required to obtain comparative offers, as the prices are already discounted through the framework agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Maplesoft Framework Agreement

Maintenance for a purchased license has expired. What do I do?

Maple’s maintenance regulations allow you to use the most current product version. If your maintenance has expired, you can continue to use the most current version of the software at the time of expiration.

I purchased Maple software through the framework agreement. Can I also use it for personal use?

No. Usage rights from the framework agreement may only be installed and used on TU Berlin computers.

I did not receive a purchase code in the email confirming my order in the software portal or on the AskNet invoice. Where can I find it?

After you submit an order in the software portal, ZECM purchases the license from Maplesoft. Once this is complete, Maplesoft sends the purchase code to ZECM. You (the purchaser) will then receive an email from ZECM with the purchase code. AskNet does not have access to this code. You will receive the code roughly a week after placing your oder.

My Maple item was removed from my shopping cart when paying. Why?

You must have the “purchaser” role to buy items from the Maplesoft framework agreement, but this role has not been assigned to you.
