LeanProt

Systems biology platform for the creation of lean-proteome Escherichia coli strains

In nature Escherichia coli has applied complex strategies to adopt to its environment. This includes a wide range of genes and proteins which are necessary to survive under rough conditions. In industrial processes such harsh conditions are eliminated and the production of many native proteins could be considered as unnecessary. In the LEANPROT project such proteins will be identified and removed from the genome of Escherichia coli. This will be done in an iterative process of protein identification, modelling and biological experiments.

In a highly automated screening process the chair of bioprocess engineering assume the screening process and the biological experiments. For this purpose the automation platform will be used. Aim of the TU Berlin part is to shorten the time and experiments of the screening using model-based experimental design, automated cultivations and sample analyse.
