Spectroscopic characterization of metalloproteins
Welcome to the web pages of the working group "Spectroscopic characterization of metalloproteins", headed by Dr. Ingo Zebger. We investigate the functioning of proteins and in particular gas-converting enzymes. These are, e.g. hydrogenases that reversibly split molecular hydrogen into protons and electrons or CO2/CO transforming enzymes like formate- and carbonmonoxide- dehydrogenase. We mainly use various vibrational spectroscopic techniques in specially adapted measurement setups, using infrared light, Raman or nuclear inelastic scattering, to reveal structure-function relationships and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms during catalysis or other processes. We work closely with collaborators from different networks using complementary spectroscopic, theoretical, structural biological, and biochemical methods.
