Welcome to the web pages of our research group "Biochemistry of gas-converting biocatalysts", headed by Dr. Oliver Lenz. We investigate the functioning of microbial biocatalysts (enzymes) that reversibly split molecular hydrogen into protons and electrons. We are interested in both the architecture and catalytic cycle of these complex metalloenzymes and their biotechnological applications. For this purpose we use a variety of molecular genetic, biochemical and analytical methods. Our work is mostly carried out in close collaboration with biophysical (spectroscopy), structural biological, theoretical, and application-oriented cooperation partners.
