Biophysical Chemistry
Welcome
Welcome on the homepage “Physical Chemistry / Biophysical Chemistry“, supervised by Professor Peter Hildebrandt.
The research in our group is focused on the investigation of elementary chemical and physical processes in complex biological systems, including primarily photoinduced processes. Electron transfer, and catalytic reactions of photoreceptors and metalloenzymes in crystals, solutions, and at biocompatible or biomimetic interfaces. These fundamental topics crosslink the various research projects, in which a variety of techniques from molecular biology, (bio)chemistry and physics are employed.
The group participates in various research networks including the cluster of excellence "Unifying Systems in Catalysis" UniSysCat, the collaborative research center CRC1078, the Einstein Center of Catalysis EC2, and the international exchange program TIMB3.
