Korn-Scout

Grain and its many users - strengthening grain competences for sustainability in the food craft sector

The collaborative research project Korn-Scout aimed to nurture a focus in vocational training on sustainable action in the tdaily working lives of people in grain-related professions such as millers, bakers, confectioners and brewers/maltsters as well as related professions.

Particular attention was given to ensuring that communication regarding sustainability between the individual actors along the value chain results in grain capacity building, so that the actors function as agents of change for sustainability. To this end, the project partners worked together with partners from industry to develop and test various innovative teaching-learning materials for future "grain scouts."

Key focuses were on improving vocational (and, if applicable, further) training, i.e. to increase knowledge in vocational training in the context of grain processing along the value chain, as well as increasing scientific knowledge. The educational materials developed in the project were made available as Open Educational Resources.

In December 2021, the Korn-Scout project was awarded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Commission for UNESCO with the "National Award - Education for Sustainable Development" ("Nationale Auszeichnung - Bildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung").
