Theory of Modern Societies
Welcome to the Department of General Sociology and Theory of Modern Societies
The department of General Sociology and Theory of Modern Societies teaches the basic theoretical orientations of sociology as well as its most important current developments. These include the historical formation and current theoretical and methodological developments of sociological questions, concepts and theories in the breadth of different approaches, as well as time-analytical and social-structural diagnoses of contemporary society in Germany and in comparison with other European and international societies. On the basis of phenomenology, social constructivism and the sociology of knowledge, the department develops its own theoretical position of communicative constructivism and works on its empirical application in a wide variety of research fields
