Didactics of Work Studies

Studying

Reflecting our understanding of university teaching, our bachelor's and master's programs in Prevocational Education prepare students for their future careers and enable them to conduct independent scientific research. We also aim to provide a general academic education embracing critical thinking and socially responsible action. In keeping with the standards for teacher training of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK), the aim of our subject didactic training in work studies is to prepare students for the demanding tasks of teaching "Economy - Work - Technology" (WAT) at schools in Berlin or comparable subjects in other federal states as well as promote an understanding of professionalism that enables them to actively shape teaching and school life and promote lifelong learning.

Our research-based teaching engages with the category of work - domestic work and gainful employment - from the perspective of private life. This enables us, among other things, to determine the educational value of subject-specific topics for school teaching in the subject "Economy - Work - Technology" on the basis of didactic theories. To help prepare for their work in schools, our students participate in research in practice-oriented seminars on planning, implementing and reflecting on subject-specific teaching. Students also complete a practical semester working at a school reflecting our belief in the importance of cooperation and exchange between theory and practice.
