Data and AI-supported development and strengthening of value chains in the field of regional food systems.

The joint project “Stadt-Land-Fluss” (SLF) researches and investigates the development and strengthening of regional food systems with the help of data platforms and AI-supported methods. A further basis for the project is the desire among consumers for more regional food.

In our globalized world of consumption, value chains in the food system are becoming increasingly complex and less transparent in terms of production, process and distribution systems. Regional actors along the value chain from the field to the plate need information on demand, including about the capacities and potentials of a region.

The primary objective of the project is to strengthen the regional food economy by promoting networking among individual actors and increasing transparency along the value chain. We chose the Berlin-Brandenburg region as an example for the joint project. SLF's research findings are to be used to help make the regional food system more sustainable and efficient. In addition to a needs and requirements analysis for the regional food system of Berlin-Brandenburg and the creation of a reliable database with high-quality information on the region, a prototype digital platform is being developed at local level to enable direct networking among regional actors while also matching supply and demand.
