This colloquium provides an insight into the current work of the department and the international status of research and development in related subject areas.

A session is usually subdevided:

1. Presentation and discussion of a current, international publication in the field of nanophotonic devices and applications
2. Presentation and discussion of the current work from a sub group of the department

In particular, the latter provides an insight into practical scientific work, with a focus on the following aspects:

• Realization of measurement setups and methods
• Data acquisition and evaluation
• Technical and systematic problems/sources of error and their solution
• Classification of the results in the international research environment
