In this Workshop each Working Package (WP) presented its research progress. Then, WP 5 from the Bauhaus-University Weimar held a small presentation about the "Raumbild" approach as a tool in regional planning. The URA project aims to provide a "Raumbild" vision as a project outcome for the implementation phase. This is meant to help planners in the research area by involving a variety of stakeholders. The workshop ended with a discussion on the links between the WPs to strengthen the overall integrity of the URA project. The CCST's WP6 sees a strong possible collaboration with WPs 2,3,4,5 and 7.

August 19, 2019 Berlin, Germany

This workshop was used to give an overview of the current progress of each Working Package (WP). The individual teams presented their research structure, their methodology and case studies and towards which goals they will work during the definition phase. Then, the second field trip that would be conducted in September/October 2019 was discussed. Each WP again outlined their plan in detail and possible overlap and collaboration potentials were identified. It was also planned how the several M.Sc. students that wanted to be involved with the research done by URA could help conducting field work for a minimum of six weeks during an internship in China.

May 27 - 31, 2019 Huangyan-Taizhou, Zhejiang, China

The German researcher consortium travelled to China for the first field trip and Sino-German joint workshop at the end of May. After meeting at the High-speed Rail Station of Shanghai, the research consortium travelled together with their Chinese counterparts to the research region. The field trip was accompanied by the representatives from local authorities and municipalities, as well as local enterprises. The first excursion was titled “The Supply Chain and Material-Energy Circulation in Moulding Industries in Huangyan” and featured visits to the Industrial Design Base of the Smart Moulding Town, the moulding manufacturing and exhibition sites in the Smart Moulding Town and Xifan Village. The second excursion, called “Rural Revitalization and Eco-Infrastructure in Huangyan-Taizhou Region” went to rural revitalization projects in Wuyantou Village and Shatan Village, Zhongde Farm in Qianjiang Village, and Changtan Water Reservoir and Dam. The workshop session took place after the field investigation, during which the Sino-German group exchanged personal introductions, shared their previous individual research experiences with each other, and carried out productive discussions directed planned thematic topics based on the field experiences in the region. After the workshops, an international lecture series was organised with keynote speeches from both German and Chinese researchers. It was titled “On Sustainable Development of Village Human Settlement: 2019 Sino-German Academic Conference in Huangyan”. After the end of the workshop, individual field trips were being conducted from 1-6 June by each WP respectively.

May 15, 2019 Berlin, Germany

This first kick-off workshop of the URA project was held at Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) on 15th of May, 2019 from 10:00 am-17:00 pm. All Working Packages (WP) introduced themselves and their research focus, goals and methodologies, after a warm welcome by Prof. Philipp Misselwitz. Then, Xiaoxue Gao presented the case study region of Huangyan-Taizhou and proposed several localities for excursions and detailed investigation. Among these were for example the Wuyantou and Shatan rural revitalization projects as well as moulding factories and plastic retailing enterprises. These sites could play a central role for the microscale and the selection of the “Reallabore” (implementation labs). Then, looking forward, the project timeline with its upcoming milestones were discussed and specified and an overview of the Chinese partners of the project was given.
