Biopolymers

The oscillatory conditions in industrial-scale fed-batch cultivations are mimicked in multi-compartment scale-down reactors. The impact of gradients on the cellular behavior, regulatory network and population homogeneity are observed.

We aim to discover targets for strain and process optimization and suitable process analytical tools to improve scale-up and industrial-scale processes performance.

Several investigations are made in either one-, two- or three-compartment bioreactors from the mL to the L-scale.

Finally, relations between cell physiology, process performance and the influence of scale-related stress shall be understood better and scale-up shall be conducted faster by the consequent consideration of typically occurring inhomogeneities in production scale.
