We use Life-Cycle-Assessment (LCA) for the ecological evaluation of different bioprocesses. In this procedure the agricultural farming, transportation of the raw material, implemented bioprocesses, storage, transportation and distribution of the product are considered.

Moreover recycling strategies can be evaluated. In biological processes the substrates are mainly agricultural byproducts, which compete with the food and feed industry. Therefore we study the use of residue materials for the production of bulk chemicals and energy. LCA makes it possible to evaluate the ecological benefit of these attempts.
