Energetic use of Biomass

Description

Energy produced from biogas is one important brick in an electric system based on renewables as it is not fluctuating.

Our focus is the flexibility usage of feedstock for electric energy generation under the consideration of residues from food waste and agriculture, including recalcitrant material.

To ensure a reliable plant operation, a (microbial) pre-treatment of the substrates as well as process monitoring and control are required. Flexibility with respect to feedstock utilization and methane synthesis is also achieved by improved multi-stage operation, which is investigated in stirred tank cascades and plug-flow reactors.

Life Cycle Assessment is implemented to evaluate different strategies for the use of raw materials and energy generation.
